Easy Ways to Get Your Kids to Recycle!

January 08, 2021

Recycling is a habit that everyone needs to pick up. And one way to everyone around you in Adelaide into recycling is by starting from your family. And there’s no better place to start teaching the benefits of recycling than from your kids. Kids are more receptive to changes and can easily pick up habits. But this doesn’t mean teaching your kids how to recycle will be easy.

So how do you get kids who want to do nothing but play all day to recycle? By following these tips.

Get them to watch cartoons about recycling

Children spend a lot of time watching animated shows and cartoons and learn a lot from them. It’s only right that you introduce recycling into your kids’ cartoon collection. Research cartoons that speak on the moral lessons of recycling and get them to watch it.

It would even be better if the cartoons have catchy songs based on recycling. Your kids will sing rhymes about recycling and learn why recycling is so important. And the best part is that the whole process will be fun for them. You don’t want to get boring cartoons that will put your kids to sleep.

Another way to use cartoons is to look for episodes of your kid’s favourite cartoons based on recycling. Some children aren’t open to new shows, so this is a way to involve their best cartoons into it.

Search for recycling games

Kids love games , and there’s no reason why you can’t turn recycling into a game. Search for games if you can find any that are based on recycling. Recycling games may not be all that easy to find, however, so you can come up with a game by yourself.

You could tell your kids that they should do a competition on who can gather the most plastic bottles and cans. After they’ve collected the bottles, you could all go to the recycling plant to trade in the bottles. If you make the gathering bottles game fun enough, they’ll retain the habit till they grow up.

You can get creative with your kids and tailor the games according to their interests.

Educational materials

Direct learning will also help after all that indirect learning. As boring as it may be for your kids, show them documentaries about recycling. Or kid’s books that show why recycling is so important. Ask them questions to make sure they actually learnt something.

When trying to get your kids to recycle, you have to make sure you and your partner also recycle. It wouldn’t be right if you told your kids to recycle while you didn’t recycle. Come to Thorntons Recycling for cash in exchange for your bottles.
